The Pioneers of Vinifera
Originally from Ukraine, Dr. Konstantin Frank moved to the USA in the ‘50s after earning his PhD in viticulture (the study of grapevines). Once he settled in the Finger Lakes region, he ignited the Vinifera Revolution and showed the local industry that European grape species (Vitis Vinifera) could not only grow, but thrive in a cold climate. Today, his namesake winery is run by 3rd and 4th generation Franks, Fred and Meaghan, and recognized as New York’s most award-winning winery, a benchmark of fine wines in the United States, and a trendsetter in the world of sparkling wine.
