Renowned sommelier, author and wine educator, Laura Winter Falk, will take you down memory lane to explore and taste the history of the Finger Lakes Wine Region in this thought-provoking wine experience.
Meet your Host
Few people have the opportunity to learn from one of the region’s most famous sommeliers, Laura Winter Falk. Laura is the co-owner of one of the Finger Lakes’ top wine tour operators, Experience! The Finger Lakes. She has been an educator her entire career. Her sommelier role is perfect for sharing her passion for learning, love for wine, and background in food and nutrition. Additionally, Laura is also a regular contributing wine writer for several publications. It brings her immense joy being an Adjunct Professor of Wine within the Wine Marketing program at Tompkins Cortland Community. Writing the book Culinary History of the Finger Lakes: From the Three Sisters to Riesling was one more way for Laura to engage with this incredible community.
About the Wine Experience
This immersive experience is for those that love wine as much as storytelling.
Firstly, we’ll talk about the key role that cider has played in the region’s history. Afterwards, the ‘importance of traditional-method sparkling winemaking’ will set the stage to introduce the evolution of the local wine industry. ‘How hybrids helped the industry survive and thrive post-prohibition’ is always an exciting eye-opening chapter. Lastly, ‘the vinifera revolution that redifined quality’ and ‘modern trends’ will summarize the present and open the conversation to what’s coming next.
A unique wine or cider from a benchmark producer exemplifies each topic. Your host guides the tasting, discussing each wine and cider while enjoying a variety of house-made gourmet tartines showcasing local foods and chefs’ creations.
Laura’s engagement, passion and knowledge will leave you wishing for more.
